Behind The Lens: Matt Topacio // @minthols

"Well, I started my photography when I was around fourteen years old. Most of my inspiration was my brother and sister since they were also into photography. Going into high school I joined a club called Knightlife, where I was able to show my photography on the school newspaper. At that time my photography mostly consisted of portraits and landscapes. I started shooting grad photos and was even able to shoot for a small clothing brand called Crown Threads. During my senior year I started watching content creators like Illiminate and Fitment Industries. That was when my passion for cars really started.

 

I started modifying my car (2014 civic ex) with wheels and suspension. That was when I realized how intricate you can be with a build. I started getting lip kits, headlights, taillights, and a wing. At the same time, I started taking pictures of my car. I would go around my city looking for spots to shoot my car, and that is honestly one of my favorite things to do when I have free time. At first I was to timid to reach out to drivers around my area offering free photo shoots since I didn’t really have a portfolio or experience. One day I was out shooting and was on my way out of a spot when this crew rolled up. I turned back and asked if it was cool if I took some shots for them, and they said it was chill. They were extremely chill and humble, and  we eventually became homies. This helped me get out of my comfort zone and got me to go out to more meets and meet more people and offer to take pictures for them.

 

I’m still fairly new to automotive photography, but so far it’s been a fun experience. It is kind of known that some parts of the car culture can be toxic or egotistic, and that is why I am  excited to shoot for LMS. Likemindedsociety is one of the few communities that is extremely inclusive and welcoming. I hope to provide quality content for you guys and inspire other photographers out there.
