Behind The Lens: Sophia Curet // @CuretPhotography

"I started my photography journey back in early middle school. I first got started by taking up-close photos of flowers and other small aspects of nature, and really came to appreciate the macro details of the world. From then on, I feel I always had a camera in my hand or I was at least eager to get back to where I could be taking more photos. Even from the beginning, I feel that photography gave me the opportunity to see the world in a different way. I have always tried to stick by that feeling and not just take a photo of things from my normal perspective, but to try to work to see the uniqueness of each object around me. I was very excited to be made the head photographer for my high school’s yearbook for two years in a row. Through that experience, I began my portrait photography career and have since gotten the opportunity to shoot multiple weddings, engagements, and countless graduation photos.

It wasn’t until high school that I started to get interested in automotive work. My high school boyfriend and our group of friends would be constantly working on tearing apart old Subaru’s: replacing the engines and upgrading what we could on our high school budgets.  Really, we just enjoyed our time messing around in the garage with different car parts. These experiences gave me such an appreciation for how cars work and I was always so excited when we would find an old car we could work to fix up.

Since then, I helped to create the Automotive Enthusiasts Club at the University of Idaho and I’ve been the photographer for them from the start. This was where I really started to get into automotive photography. At our meets, you would see that each member’s car was incredibly different from anyone else’s. Just like I would enjoy capturing the miniscule details of flowers back in the day, when photographing someone’s car I try to look for the small details that stand out. Many car builds have little unique pieces that you know the owner put so much work into: carbon lips, halo headlights, even different decals. These are the parts of cars I try to highlight in my work.

I am so excited to be working with Likemindedsociety. I always knew car groups could be exclusive and toxic, but it was not until I went to a car meet down in Southern Idaho and was shunned for rolling up in an unmodified Mazda3 that I realized just how great of a group LMS is. I really appreciate how all are welcome no matter their build, because we all share the common interest in that cars are just, like, really cool. After being accepted from the Open Enrollment that was done in December 2020, LMS has decided that it would be a mistake to NOT bring on Sophia. So without any hesitation we knew we wanted her to be on the LMS Photography Team. Having a good attention to detail, and an ability to capture details you may have not even of known were there, we are excited to have Sophia with us for the 2021 year.

Sophia has been a part of the LMS local community for quite some time, and has shown her commitment to the community and cause. If you have an opportunity to work with her we highly encourage it, as you won't be dissapointed. BOISE PEEPS make sure to be on the lookout as she will be in your area in the near future!
